Andy Thompson, as National Director of the Pallotti Centers, has worked with Catholic lay volunteer programs since 1988. "One of the most inspiring aspects of this work has been the talent and generosity of the volunteers, missioners, program directors and staff. I'm convinced these people have an important leadership role to play and that they will continue to make great contributions to the Church and society for decades to come." Andy, at the age of 17, joined the LaSallian Christian Brothers, taught high school and served with this religious order for ten years. Subsequently he worked in catechetical publishing, earned a doctorate in Religious Education and for a another decade taught religious studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC. As a professor, he authored several books published by the National Catholic Educational Association and the U.S.C.C. of Bishops. The most recent is Weaving Christ's Seamless Garment published by the NCEA (1999). With regard to how Andy got into volunteering, he said: "When, as a young adult, I taught high school students, I had started a volunteer program for the students to work in the inner city. So my more recent years working with the Pallotti Center and lay volunteer programs has been a return to my roots." |
