Funny Things That Happened

What was one of the funniest things that happened to you as a volunteer?

Dani Clark Scano, L'Arche, Rome, Italy

It had to be when Giorgio and Paolo, two mentally handicapped young men stood up in the middle of a huge youth group lip sync show finale, in front of at least a thousand people, and started dancing. It was that song from Sister Act that goes, “I will follow him…. Follow him wherever he may go….” Well, it starts out slow and then turns into a rock and roll song.  When the tempo turned fast, Paolo and Giorgio ran out to the middle of the gymnasium floor and started weaving in and out of the high school lip sync-ers doing Baryshnikov moves and their funny go-go type dancing. I was mortified, because they were messing up the lip sync-ers, but it was absolutely hilarious! I loved their freedom to express themselves and dance. They heard the music and it moved them right to center stage. I wonder how it would be if we were all like that!

Christina Neill, Jesuit Volunteer Corps- Northwest, Yakima, WA

This is not all that funny, but I totaled two of the community vehicles.
