• One way to get connected with current and/or former volunteers in the area is to plan intercommunity volunteer gatherings such as prayer groups, game nights, meals/picnics, etc.

• Catholic Charities

Music, film, and other cultural events
• Palace of Fine Arts, 3301 Lyon Street, San Francisco, 415-563-6504.
• Alcatraz, Golden Gate NRA, 415-705-5555.
• The Golden Gate Bridge is a hot tourist attraction. Vista Point, on the Marin side of the bridge, is one of the most popular picture-taking spots in the Bay Area.
• Despite its Disneyfied atmosphere and oppressive crowds, the center of Wine Country- the Napa Valley- boasts excellent vintages and fogless scenery.
• The Santa Cruz Boardwalk is always a good time. Beware of the Giant Dipper, a terrifying roller coaster that just might harsh your Santa Cruz mellow.

• Angel Island State Park is Northwest of Alcatraz.  Earn your wings on this island of incredible beauty, haunted by the bittersweet memory of its one-time immigrants.
• Twin Peaks is within spitting distance of the Castro District. Stop by at the Cafe or the Metro for drinks and plenty of noise. 

 

Los Angeles and San Diego
 
Gatherings
• Formers from all programs are invited to the Lay Mission Helpers volunteer program's Mission Gatherings held 3 times per year, usually in LA or Orange County. Contact Janice England at LMH@la-archdiocese.org for more information.
•The Jesuit Volunteer Corps hosts a pot-luck for incoming volunteers in the area. Former JV's and formers of any program are welcome to attend. Contact Linda Krippner at thisissimple55@hotmail.com for more info.

• St. Agatha's in Los Angeles has great hospitality and liturgy. 
• Our Mother of Good Counsel at 2600 N. Vermont Ave. has an active young adult group.
•Dolores Mission at 171 S. Gless St. in LA has English and Spanish masses, great music ministry and outreach to the surrounding Latino community. 
• St. Brendan's at 310 S. Van Ness Ave. in LA has strong community.
• St. Monica's was recommended for it's vibrant community and music ministry.   
• St. Thomas the Apostle at 1321 S. Mariposa Ave. has a great Salvadoran community. Go to mass and get pupusas afterwards!
• Holy Name of Jesus Church comes highly recommended - the 2.5 hour gospel mass is "not to be missed". 
• San Diego Mission Young Adults see www.missionyoungadults.com for more information.
• Christ the King in San Diego on the corner of 32nd and Imperial Ave. is a very vibrant parish where many formers go.
• St. Brigid's in San Diego
