Gatherings
• The St. Vincent Pallotti Center, located on the campus of The Catholic University in Washington, DC, provides a number of services for prospective, current, and former volunteers in the area, including: monthly gatherings (social events, discussions, guest speakers, etc.); a listing of roommate openings and other formers looking for housing in the DC and Baltimore areas; local non-Pallotti Center event updates, sent via e-mail, about once per week to formers who request them; and, a free job bank service for formers looking for employment.  Call 202-529-3330 or email pallotti@pallotticenter.org to get in touch with us!

• One way to get connected with current and/or former volunteers in the area is to plan intercommunity volunteer gatherings such as prayer groups, game nights, meals/picnics, etc.

Parishes that current and former volunteers have recommended

• Holy Trinity, at 3513 N St., NW, 202-337-2840, will have a spring lecture series on Catholic Social Teaching.
• The Georgetown Campus Chapel has a lively liturgy on Sundays at 8:30 pm with great music and lots of young people.
• St. Augustine's, at 1419 V St., NW, 202-265-1470, is the oldest black Catholic Church in DC.
• St. Aloysius at 19 I St., NW, 202-336-7211.  Many formers attend the Sunday, 10 am liturgy.  St. "Al's" is a diverse and lively parish with a strong community feeling and social justice ministry.  
• Shrine of the Sacred Heart at 16th and Park Road NW, 202-234-8000.  Many formers attend the Sunday 10:00 am liturgy.  This multi-cultural parish has many volunteer opportunities and social ministries including teaching ESL to immigrants, a soup kitchen, a peace, justice and ecology committee and much, much more!
• Caldwell Chapel Faith Community is a social justice oriented community that meets for mass every Sunday at 10:30 am in the Caldwell Hall Chapel at Catholic University.
• St. Camillus Parish in Silver Spring, MD is known for its revered choir and its diverse parish community.

Retreat opportunities/spirituality centers

• Contemplative Outreach of Metropolitan Washington, at 1830 Connecticut Ave., NW, 301-515-4309, offers centering prayer opportunities and training and retreats.

• The Center of Concern promotes social analysis, theological reflection, advocacy & education on issues of global development, trade, economic justice and human rights.

• Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, 3900 Harewood Road, NE, 202-635-5442, seeks volunteers to assist with tours, special events, receptions, administration, research projects, etc. Please call or write Christina Leggett (cleggett@jp2cc.org) to help out. There are free weekend shuttles to and from the Metro and volunteers of all faiths are welcomed.

Music, film, and other cultural events

• The National Gallery of Art has free Sunday night concerts.  For more info call 202-737-4215.
• The Smithsonian Folklife Festival every summer around July 4th is great fun.
• The Washington Folk Fest in early June is worth checking out.
• The WAMU Bluegrass Festival at Glen Echo, usually in early October, is also enjoyable.
• The HR-57 Center for the Preservation of Jazz & Blues educates, provides experiences, opportunities and info that transverse the full spectrum of the jazz and blues experience.  The offer exhibits, theatre and concerts. 
•The National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.  There are free shows (first come, first seated; tickets are required and are distributed half an hour before the show starts) on Monday nights - a wide range of things, from Slavic performers, to musicals, to string bands.  On Saturday mornings, there are free shows for children and families.
• The Hirshhorn Museum, at 7th and Independence, has free films on Thursday and Friday nights at 8 pm.  Visit their site to see a list.
• Don't miss the free "Screen on the Green" (a.k.a. "Movies on the Mall") during the summer in July and August.
• The Kennedy Center offers free daily concerts at 6 pm on their Millennium Stage.   
• Don't miss the Shakespeare Theatre Free For All, which runs for two weeks every June at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park.  Performed by the Washington, DC Shakespeare Society - one of the world's best… and it's free!  For info, visit www.shakespearedc.org.
• Picnic, lay in the grass and enjoy music every Thursday night during the summer at the National Zoo's free Sunset Serenade concert series.  Concerts begin at about 6:30 pm beginning at the end of June and running for six weeks.  For details, call 202-673-4717.

• The Woodstock Theological Center, at Georgetown University, engages in theological and ethical reflection on topics of social, economic and political importance.

• The Noodle Club is a nonprofit which meets monthly for inexpensive dinners and group discussion around the DC area.
